How long does therapy usually take?

The treatment process can widely vary depending on your commitment,  goals, adherence, willingness and presenting concerns. Some clients want to work on one specific concern and learn how to perhaps best approach an important decision. Brief or Short-term therapies or even coaching could be beneficial here as sessions may range from a few sessions to perhaps several months. Individuals seeking shorter therapies can usually address certain things that may include or deal with behavioral matters. They may want to work on their dating skills, career development, manage fears, or resolve some communication problems they may be experiencing in their relationships.

Longer therapies generally last over 6 months and are designed to help explore dynamics that underlie our emotional elements. Individuals choosing this type of therapy develop a strong and lasting bond with the therapist who supports and allows them explore and express deeper patterns of themselves. Unlike behavioral therapies which remain in the present and generally address symptomatology, the aim of depth therapies is to address earlier wounds, attachment styles, defense mechanisms, pervasive patterns out of conscious awareness

What is my expected commitment to psychotherapy?

Most experts work with individuals once a week. During an approximately 50 minute to 1-hour session, individuals will go through traditional talk therapy. There may be some sessions which may be longer. For example, initial sessions with couples generally require a 2-hour session. Most of the time, couples often wait too long to go to therapy and are in severe conflict or are disconnected at the time they seek therapy. A 2-hour session allows us to hear both individuals, understand the dynamics, and attempt to come up with a plan before they leave their first session. Besides the 50min-1 Hour sessions, some of therapist offer 1, 2, or 3-Day Intensives for those individuals or couples that are looking to dive deep within their healing journey and invest in themselves .

What kind of therapy or modality will be used?

Our wellness team diverts from the medical model towards an approach that understands the whole person. As holistic beings, we live out external circumstances that are beyond our control within a context of internal experiences. We look at the individual from the perspective that we all encompass spiritual, emotional, cognitive, sexual, and physical elements. Our approach is holistic and may use or combine a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), family systems therapy, psychodynamic-oriented therapy, sex therapy, attachment-based therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). A number of our therapist may also use Gottman Method or Imago Relational Therapy (IRT).
